Troop Aid – Supporting Injured British Troops Worldwide

Ensuring Injured Troops Never Feel Forgotten

Injured on duty, far from home, and with nothing but their uniform. That’s the reality many of our servicemen and women face. We step in to provide the necessary comfort, care, and a touch of home when they need it most.

At TROOP AID, we provide Grab Bags (emergency military welfare packs filled with life’s essentials) to support injured British troops worldwide.

Our Mission
From Solihull to Estonia, Canada to Kenya and beyond, our mission is simple: to restore comfort, dignity, and a sense of home when our injured service personnel need it most.
Who we Support

We support injured British troops from the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force, wherever they’re serving.

Our military welfare packs are distributed to hospitals and units across the UK and overseas, including:

  • Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham
  • Infantry Battle School, Brecon
  • Regional military medical and mental health facilities throughout the UK
  • HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, Aircraft Carriers and other HM ships
  • Military medical treatment facilities in Estonia, Cyprus, Canada, Kenya, Falkland Islands and beyond
Our Colours

Royal Navy Blue, Army Red and RAF Blue – are proudly represented in the TROOP AID logo.

How we’re funded

Providing our essential British military hospital supplies is made possible by the generosity of people like you.

We’re funded entirely through legacies, donations and fundraising from:

  • Rotary and Lions Clubs
  • Masonic Lodges, Round Tables, schools, and businesses
  • Ex-Service associations
  • Compassionate individuals just like you

Every penny goes directly into supporting our troops. You can help by donating, fundraising, or giving clothes for collection. Together, we can make sure no injured service personnel feels forgotten.

What’s in Our Military Welfare Packs?

Each Grab Bag contains:

  • T-shirt, shorts, underwear and socks
  • Towel and face flannel
  • Toiletries and shaving kit
  • Deodorant and shower mules
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, and a get-well card

It’s a small bag that makes a world of difference.

Our Story
From One Good Deed to a Worldwide Mission
2006: Troop Aid Was Born

It started with a hospital visit. Three ex-servicemen named Albert Sutton, Derek Joss, and Ray Warren went to visit injured troops at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital.

They noticed soldiers arriving from Iraq and Afghanistan without clothes or toiletries. Albert and his wife Pam decided to act there and then, buying essentials from the local market and delivering them to the ward.

2007: The Birth of the Grab Bag

Realising the need went far beyond one hospital, they began creating military welfare packs for use in field hospitals overseas.

Soon, the Ministry of Defence officially approved their shipments, sending out 500 bags at a time from the Army Logistics Base in Bicester.

2008: A Registered Charity

By 2008, TROOP AID had raised enough to become recognised as one of the UK’s official charities for troops.

We even caught the attention of the (then) HRH The Prince of Wales, who became our Patron that same year.

2014: National Recognition

We were honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and the Chief of the Defence Staff Commendation, recognising our exceptional support to the Armed Forces community.

Today: Still Serving Those Who Serve Us

Now based in a dedicated warehouse in Solihull, our small invaluable team and dedicated volunteers continue to send numerous Grab Bags every year, supporting injured British troops wherever they are.
